New Good Hotel Guide 2017: Great Britain & Ireland launches October 2016

The new Good Hotel Guide 2017: Great Britain & Ireland, the wholly independent hotel guide – established in 1978 will launch on 10 October 2016.

Co-edited by Adam Raphael and M. Astella Saw, the Guide has 414 main entries featuring hotels that are considered to be the best of their type in Great Britain and Ireland.  Hotels do not pay to be included, unlike in many of today’s hotel guides.  The editors select entries purely on merit, based on the latest visits by a team of experienced inspectors as well as reports from knowledgeable readers.  Reports by members of the public are monitored, scrutinised and graded by the editorial team based on the number of reports submitted and their accuracy.

Each year ten César awards are presented to the Guide’s most celebrated hoteliers. Named after César Ritz, these are known as the Oscars of the hotel industry and will be announced on 10 October 2016, the date of publication.

Says co-editor Adam Raphael: “We are entering the Guide’s 39th year and it is fascinating to see how the UK hotel industry has broken so many boundaries since the 1970s.  Each year we celebrate some of the UK’s most established and celebrated properties together with new discoveries and one-off gems.  This year’s Guide alone showcases 48 new main entries and 47 new shortlisted entries every one of which is deserving of its place.”

This year’s highly esteemed Editor’s Choice section highlights the top 10 hotels in 16 categories – Discoveries, Value, Family-friendly, Seaside, Country House, Boutique, Gourmet, Gastropubs, Dog-friendly, Walking, Weddings, Gardens, Spas, Romantic, Bed & Breakfast and Rooms with a View. All hotels are listed alphabetically, by village or town, with a photograph and all of the Guide’s main entries include a full review with accompanying contact details.

A Shortlist section contains an additional 411 establishments. Some are untested new entries of a notable standard, often in parts of the country where there is limited choice.  Others are properties that remain ever-popular.

The Good Hotel Guide 2017 is also available online; hotels are asked to make a modest payment for a website listing.  There are a further four online-only Editor’s Choice hotel categories: Fishing, Golf, Green and Historic.
