Tribute to Queen with Norfolk Church Restoration

A church in Norfolk had a £12,000 window restoration to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee in 2012. Her 60th year as Britain’s leading monarch was celebrated around the country and Aylsham Parish Church had new windows installed to mark the achievement nearly three years on. British double glazing repair services Montrose Glass have commented on the completed work.

Over 150 people were in attendance at a Candlemas service which marked the Queen’s diamond jubilee according to a report in the Eastern Daily Press. Repair work on the north aisle windows was decided by Aylsham residents after their jubilee party in the summer of 2012.
The church’s vicar, Rev Andrew Beane, revealed how the town wanted to make a tribute to their monarch. He said: “We wanted a lasting legacy for that celebration. It was a lovely service [and] we displayed a picture of thousands of people in the market place to remind everyone of the event in the town.”

Loose glazing was repaired due to its potential danger for church visitors and passersby. Three windows were replaced with the middle one containing a scroll to mark the Queen’s achievement. This follows an Aylsham church tradition after the south aisle windows were repaired out of respect for the Queen’s silver jubilee in 1977. This was funded by church donations from their fabric fund.
New chairs also replaced pews in an attempt to make the space more spacious and flexible. A spokesperson for Montrose Glass, UK double glazing repair specialists, responded to the restoration: “It is quite some achievement to rule the country for over 60 years and this church gesture is a good way of showing the town’s appreciation. The window repairs were also needed due to safety precautions and we offer response times for emergency double glazing replacements as quickly as 30 minutes.
